Gasrec Waste to Energy Plant
AWW was responsible for the masterplanning and architecture for a development which involved the production of liquid biomethane from waste transported from London via a new railhead and used to generate electricity for homes and transport.
It is a proven technology, but the by-products of heat, CO2 and waste solid and liquid are usually discarded. This proposal is unique in Europe for recycling the CO2 and heat into hydroponic crop production, and the solid and liquid wastes into other agricultural use.
A Visitor Centre and education facility linked to University research was included within the masterplan, plus a development of zero carbon homes.
