Planning Approval for Isle of Wight Care Home

AWW was granted planning approval for the redevelopment of the aspirational retirement living with care project; Freshwater. Approval was granted under delegated powers.

The philosophy of the scheme is to enable residents to continue to be as independent as possible for as long as possible, with appropriate care and support, and to enjoy the social and community benefits of the wide range of facilities including a restaurant, library, beauty salon, shop, activities centre and a guest suite for visitors.

Located on the Isle of Wight, Freshwater provides 75 one and two bedroom apartments and two staff/visitor overnight suites arranged around a central courtyard. 60 of these apartments are designed for affordable rent, whilst the remaining 15 will be for sale under a shared ownership scheme. 24 hour care and support will be provided by the client’s on site care team, tailored to individual requirements.

We are delighted that this project has achieved planning, in particular because it has been identified as an opportunity to incorporate circular economy principles in affordable housing. Tim Forster, Project Architect & Sustainability Champion
