Designs for Sugar Quay Development Revealed

Working in partnership with Sutton Harbour, AWW has designed an exceptional 19 storey luxury residential apartment and commercial proposal for Sugar Quay creating a landmark building for the harbourside.

The residential accommodation will be targeted at the luxury private sector and is designed in a ‘T’ arrangement. This approach offers each unit a water view and the significant distance from existing residents gives a sense of open space. A material palette has been chosen to offer longevity in this often harsh ocean facing environment. Predominantly, metal cladding with feature metal bands and glass balustrades. The selected materials and the ‘Sails’ theme, echoing the boats and maritime history of the Harbour will give the building a striking appearance that will stand the test of time.

In total, the development consists of 19 storeys over the ground floor commercial plinth. There are 175 residential units arranged in a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments. On the 16th floor there is a private residential terrace, enjoying an unprecedented view over the Harbour and beyond.

The roof of the commercial plinth provides both private amenity for the residents and a slightly lowered seating area shared by the commercial units. It will offer an opportunity to introduce some soft landscaping into the scheme and add a further layer of public/private space that can make the most of the afternoon and evening sun.
