Zeina Al-Derry, part of the AWW London office team, has won a commendation for her Part 2 Dissertation at the RIBA President’s Medals Student Awards 2015.
The ceremony took place on Wednesday 2nd December.
The thesis, entitled ‘The Melancholic City of Mirages’, addresses the complex histories of chaotic exchanges and socio-geographic dynamics inherent to the city of Baghdad. This exploration evidences the necessity of architects having a critical awareness of the complexities of time, culture, identity and architecture in the city in order to balance realism with utopianism.
Nicholas Mulholland, AWW Director, commented: “Zeina’s award for her achievement is well deserved. The critical analysis evident in her work displays great depth of understanding of the complexity of urban settlement”.
