AWW inspired environments, scooped the Community Benefit Award at RICS South West awards 2014 on the 16th May for the South Bristol Community Hospital.
The building was developed and funded by Bristol Infracare LIFTCo utilising the LIFT procurement initiative. Community Health Partnerships is Head Tenant for the building.
Designed by AWW and constructed by Carillion, the scheme provides a wide range of primary healthcare services, including two 30 bed wards, occupational therapy, outpatient services, day surgery operating theatres, minor injuries unit, podiatry and radiology. It acts as a major healthcare hub for a population of 200,000 with the aim of changing the approach to primary and community care in the city.
Director David Perkin said “Being a ‘community hospital’, the community was put at the heart of the design process. This award is for everyone who contributed to the award and everyone who campaigned for almost 60 years for the hospital to be built.”
Antek Lejk, Community Health Partnerships Executive Director, South commented: “I am very pleased that the Hospital has received this commendation, the award recognises the partnership’s commitment to transforming the estate for the benefit of the local community.”
By providing flexible delivery of health services closer to home for local people, South Bristol Community Hospital makes a significant contribution to improving the health of people in South Bristol.
Imperial Tobacco, another AWW designed project, received a highly commended award in the Commercial category.
