The restoration of a Grade II listed, former Magistrates Court in Barking Town Centre with a new linked building to the rear. The three storey existing courthouse is to be converted into 12 residential apartments with two restaurants at ground floor and supporting kitchens in the basement. The new building is to be a six storey block,include 25 residential apartments and retail spaces at ground floor.
AWW designed the scheme through from inception to planning submission coordinating the design with the local council’s regeneration team, Design for London and English Heritage.
To protect and enhance the biodiversity of the site and contribute towards sustainable drainage, a green roof will be incorporated which shall comprise at least 50% native species, not including Sedum species, seeded with an annual wildflower mix or local seed source.
