Project Breakdown

AWW was appointed to refresh and refurbish the existing 1900s BBC building in Plymouth. The existing structure in a conservation area required the modernisation and rationalisation of the existing floor plan to accommodate 150 staff members and the enhancement of existing systems to allow for state of the art broadcasting technology.

Through space planning AWW created a flexible floor plan that allows for the entire news team to work in a single space. The introduction of flexible working principals and the adoption of break out spaces and technology-hives will allow the BBC to work in a more flexible and creative way.

This project conforms to the RICS Ska sustainability benchmark for office fit outs and refurbishment projects. This project targets ‘Gold’ standard.

Director’s Quote

“The BBC commissioned us to redesign their existing premises in Plymouth. Working alongside our architects, we came up with a simple yet playful new scheme. The budget wasn’t huge, but we have still managed to create something the BBC can call their own and is instantly recognisable as theirs to anyone entering the building for the first time.”
