Project Breakdown

AWW was appointed for the design and delivery of a new Computer Test Laboratory for HP. The very heavily serviced building contains a range of functions including a large computer data centre, specialist laboratories (such as acoustics, EMC, dynamics and dust laboratories), workshops and assembly areas together with offices and training rooms.

A new 50m span Skybridge connects the laboratory to HP’s existing buildings. A new Energy Centre was also provided to serve all of HP’s campus in Bristol as part of the project.

Our contract with HP which uses AWW staff resource both in our Bristol office and seconded to HP sites is subject to annual review. Having been contracted for almost 18 years now, it is clear that our measures for collaborative working have proved successful.

Sustainability

Targeting internal gains from the large computer suites was a primary focus of the overall building performance strategy. Innovative energy-efficient free air cooling units were used to substantially reduce energy demand and building CO2 emissions.

Director’s Quote

“The design of the Test Laboratory provides a bold contemporary look which was designed so that the building would hold its own against much larger surrounding buildings. The abstract design allows windows and large quantities of louvres to be positioned wherever required for functional reasons.”
