Clevedon Community Hospital
There has been a Cottage Hospital in Clevedon since 1874 and the current building is now showing its age. AWW worked with Amber Solutions for Care’s consortium on the design of a new Clevedon Community Hospital. The scheme was to provide a range of outpatient and diagnostic facilities plus 24 inpatient single bedrooms.
A review of the business case by NHS North Somerset and NHS South of England 2012 unfortunately concluded that a new hospital was unaffordable at the current time. In April 2013 NHS North Somerset ceased to exist, and responsibility for the commissioning of healthcare services in the area passed to the new CCG.
Designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent, the scheme minimised energy demand through passive and active strategies, whilst providing containment for future adoption of a range of potential low carbon and renewable energy technologies.
“The AWW design focused on maximising the quality of the internal patient environment, with an interior design scheme informed by the ‘seaside’ location.”
