Project Breakdown

AWW was appointed by Great Western Hospital NHS Trust to design two refurbishment projects, a Cardiac Catheter Lab and a Birthing Unit. The new Cardiac facility provides two state of the art Catheter Labs with a 10 bed recovery suite and other ancillary and supporting accommodation.

The Cardiac Centre serves both Outpatients and Inpatients and is adjacent to the Cardiac Outpatients Unit and the Coronary Care Unit.

Project Result

“From the initial outline design stage, and despite some challenges along the way with regard to available space in this acute hospital, AWW has always demonstrated an excellent understanding of the Trust’s requirements and successfully translated those into workable solutions.”

Rupert Turk, Estates Project Manager, Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Sustainability

Efficient design and phasing were key to meeting the challenge of working in and around the live hospital environment.  The interior design was also central to the performance strategy; creating a home-from-home atmosphere in the birthing suite aims to enhance patient experience and improve mother and baby recovery and well-being.

Director’s Quote

“The key challenge was the live hospital environment and AWW as Contract Administrator worked closely with the Trust and Contractor to successfully deliver the project.”
