Some people may remember the brown glass façade building on the site of the former Guardian Royal Exchange. The building had stood empty for five years before being demolished in 2008. Now we get to find out what may have lain underneath as archaeological excavations have started as part of the enabling works for Glassfields Bristol, Royal London Asset Management’s speculative office development. Excavation works offer the opportunity to discover interesting evidence about the way people lived and worked in Bristol

As well as filling a need for office space within the Bristol market, the site forms a transition between the Temple Quay development and the historic Old Market. The Glassfields development seeks to enhance pedestrian and cycle links through the site and reinforce the city’s role as a regional centre. Phase 1 of the mixed use scheme is due to be completed at the end of 2018
