On 1st May 2015 four of our Directors; Ian Jenkins, Ian Sanders, Chris Mitchell and Phil Bevan, will set off on the epic four day journey from Bristol to Paris with only the aid of a two wheeled friend.
The 430km challenge is all in a good cause; we are cycling in support of Above + Beyond, a Bristol Charity raising funds for Bristol’s hospitals. Their work touches the lives of more than 500,000 patients cared for in Bristol’s nine hospitals each year as well as the millions of friends and family who visit them, and the 8,000 dedicated NHS staff who care for them.
One of our team, Chris Mitchell, has a very personal reason for supporting the charity and taking part in this challenge. ‘In February 2010 I was diagnosed with Myeloma, an incurable but highly treatable form of bone marrow cancer. As a consequence I became all too familiar with a number of Bristol hospitals, particularly the Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre and the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, where I received my second stem cell transplant in 2011. The care received throughout my treatment was fantastic and I feel extremely fortunate to be back at work and able to take part in this event, supporting a very worthwhile cause’.
Chris Mitchell. Very much a newbie on the cycle scene, but a classic ‘mamil’ shape.
Ian Jenkins. ‘Jenks’ – the silver fox. Vastly experienced, so may do the whole thing twice.
Phil Bevan. Proudly flying the Welsh flag, tempted into accepting the challenge by the thought of long lunches and great wines.
Ian Sanders. Representing the deep South-West, this pirate brings a swashbuckling style to the team.
