Sustainability
AWW is committed to designing and delivering projects founded on principles of sustainable development that are socially, economically and commercially robust and credible. We hold accreditation to ISO 14001.
Sustainability is integrated within AWW’s design approach to maximise ecological values and the conservation of energy through careful consideration of the site conditions and orientation, the integration of passive design measures with renewable energy and the choice of building components and materials.
We recognise the critical role of the owner and occupier on the performance of buildings over their life cycle.
Our objectives and processes ensure that:
- Users acknowledge and play a central part in reducing emissions
- We consider the long term impact buildings have on the climate change
- We can directly affect key resources such as energy, water and material
- Buildings contribute socially and economically to our environment.
Our design process aims to:
- Reduce energy through passive design
- Optimise the use of low energy in building services
- Source low embodied energy materials
- Encourage behavioural change through more sustainable building occupation and management.
We have in place a framework for setting and receiving our environmental objectives and targets which are documented, implemented and maintained through our Integrated Management System, of which our ISO 14001 forms a part. This includes our commitment to continuous improvement, prevention of pollution and compliance with legal and other requirements as applicable.
All members of staff share this commitment which is complemented by in-house initiatives, including waste minimisation and recycling.
We are members of Bristol Green Capital, The Green Register and the West of England Carbon Challenge.
